Building the Collective Brain: The Journal Club

Building the Collective Brain: The Journal Club

One of the main ideas behind The Scientist’s Notebook is that science shouldn’t sit in silos. It should be shared, questioned, and used.

That’s why I’m launching The Journal Club.

It’s a dedicated section on the-scientists-notebook.com, separate from the newsletter, where we build a growing library of performance science together.

Here’s how it works:

  1. You come across a paper that’s interesting, confusing, or worth a closer look. You send it to me via Instagram DM or through the submission form.
  2. I break the paper down, focus on the physiology and mechanisms, and cut through the statistical noise.
  3. The key takeaways are published on the site, creating a public repository anyone can access.

Every time 10 new papers are added, I’ll send a short email overview to the community so you can easily keep track of what’s new without having to search the site.

The goal is simple. A crowd-sourced reference library of performance metrics and mechanisms, driven by your curiosity and reviewed with scientific care.

I’m looking forward to seeing what you send in. Feel free to forward this e-mail to friends & family with a burning research question.

Cheers,
Dr. Thomas Mortelmans

PS: As an example, next week´s Entry will be Journal Club style ;)
